To Glen Cove area NYC commuters: June 15, 2017 You have expressed an interest to be informed on any progress related to the future Glen Cove Ferry commute option. You may have heard through print, radio and television media outlets that a summer schedule is contemplated. The MTA/LIRR and the Governors office have been working with the City of Glen Cove and the Glen Cove Industrial Development Agency (IDA) to support a ferry option. We are excited and optimistic to help area LIRR commuters by providing a solution this summer when Amtrak will be closing down 25% of the tracks for repair work. LIRR commuters already stressed and fed up with service issues are bracing for even worse delays and cancellations over the summer. Glen Cove was identified as a possible location due to our ferry-ready terminal and dock. The MTA/LIRR are interested in running ferries from Glen Cove commencing July 10, 2017, for approximately 8 weeks from Glen Cove Ferry Terminal located at 73 Garvies Point Road, Glen Cove, NY 11542 to E. 34th St. Pier in NYC.* We are advocating for an additional stop downtown at Wall Street as well. The MTA has said that the ferry service from Glen Cove is open to LIRR ticket holders with a monthly or weekly pass.* We have been advised that the ferries will run Monday through Friday from 6 to 10 and from 3 to 7 , with a detailed schedule and parking for prospective ferry riders soon to be finalized by the MTA/LIRR. (The schedule is contingent upon available docking space during peak commute times in Manhattan.) Since you have been our patient advocates, we encourage you to weigh-in on public forums in comment areas such as online Newsday, Patch etc. in support of this ferry option to show a balanced view.
